"E90M3" (e90m3)

Before I moved here, my friend used to live in an apartment complex less than a mile from where I now live. The first time I went to visit, I spotted a black 2008 E90 M3. Being me, I had to go check it out. At that time, I noted it was a manual. Upon moving here, I’ve seen a black 2008 E90 M3 a couple times driving around near where I now live; every time with a girl that appears to be around my age behind the wheel. Now the reason anyone drives a car like that include, but are not limited to:
They’re a car enthusiast
They enjoy driving
It was given to them
It belongs to their SO
They just happened to buy it
I don’t really think an E90 M3 really isn’t a car you just end up buying randomly, especially because of the maintenance costs. Now if it was a newer M car, I would include showing how much money you have; however, I don’t think you get a 9 year old M car to do that with, let alone one with a manual.
I feel like I need to meet this person, unfortunately every time I’ve seen it, I’ve been in my 328i. Yet another reason to DD my M3.

To be fair, I don’t think they’re that uncommon in Greenville, especially given the BMW plant.

There ya go...I used to work with a guy who had a V10 M5 and drove the same way across a bridge as me. He drove that beast like an old lady...one day he’d had enough of my pompous ass and tried to chase me across St. Petersburg and nearly lost it on the onramp going about 95. He took out wooden reflector and then let me just badger him for having an awesome car that never sees 5000 RPMs.

It’s always a good conversation starter when someone has the exact same car. There is a guy with an ‘05 STi who has a parking spot right across from me in my apartment building. He always comes by to chat if I am working on something and we share that subaru wave every time we drive past each other going in/out of the garage. Cool dude and its fun to make connections with people who obviously have some similar mindset to buy the same fun car.
And yes, all cars should be daily driven despite the cost lol. I suppose my Miata is my “fun/weekend car” but I still drive both cars equally to work and on the weekend.

No point in having a car like that if you’re not going to open it up. Mine might be my weekend car, but I can assure it gets driven like it should be.

I have been thinking about a daily M3. Real reason I don’t is because I already have the 328i, and I didn’t want to put 27,000 miles on the M3, as I did last year. I also want to keep the miles down on the M3 since I have no plan on getting rid of it; enjoy it longer that way.

I wasn’t about to put 27k miles per year on the M3, which I did last year. Most of the time it’s just easier to take the 3.

There are a lot of really cool BMWs are because of the plant, but I’ve seen maybe 2 or 3 other E90 M3s.

27k is a lot per year on any car you want to keep a long time- especially one that has higher maintenance costs to begin with.
When I bought my Pathfinder, I was driving ~20-22k/year and only owned the E46. That, plus the fact that the BMW is terrible in the winter (Chicago side streets and alleys are plowed *days* after big storms), made buying another car (with 4WD) basically a need back in 2006.
But your commute is a lot shorter now, right? Presume you’re splitting time between the two cars in the summer.

I might split the time, it’s just a habit I grab the keys to the 3.

It’s easy to fall into that routine- I try to drive the convertible when there’s top down weather, but lately I haven’t driven it much, thanks to having a new 400+ HP toy to play with, which also has the infant car seat in back and a panoramic sunroof, too.

Of course, I wouldnt say daily every car every day. But it’s nice to drive the fun car at least one day per week. It’s weird for me since both cars are fun, and my “daily” gets way worse gas mileage lol.

Okay, real talk. How bad is the DCT in the e90 M3?
I’m 99% settled on a Golf R in Lapiz Blue but I had the perverse idea of calculating some math on how much gas I could get from the difference in price between the two. Essentially it worked out to be about 30,000 miles worth of gas assuming 18mpg and $4 per gallon of premium. That’s also discounting the price of a full BE bearings overhaul from a shop.

There are definitely more than that in the area, though maybe not necessarily in downtown. I’m not going to say they’re common, but not quite rare either.

It’s actually pretty good. It’s hard to describe, mainly because I’ve had so much seat time in a manual M3, that I drove with the DCT in manual and knew where to make all the changes, so it was like driving my car but without having to use my left leg. I still like the manual a little more, but the DCT is technically probably a better car. If I had the choice of DCT E9X or no E9X, I would have no problem with the DCT.

I don’t live downtown. If there are more out there, I haven’t seen them. Most have probably been relegated to weekend car status. I’m also specifically talking about the E90, not the E92 or E93.

St Pete as in the 275 bridge? At night I see tons of people opening up the throttle and blazing through.
